Birth Control After Baby: Popular Methods And Options By Dr. Christine Sterling M. D.

Birth Control After Baby

Birth Control After Baby: After having a baby, it is best to wait at least 6 weeks before resuming intercourse. Once you become sexually active again, pregnancy becomes possible. To minimize pregnancy risks, the World Health Organization recommends delaying pregnancy for at least 18 months after giving birth.

Lactation

Many women believe that breastfeeding prevents pregnancy, and it does sometimes. However, relying on lactation to prevent pregnancy is tricky. To be an effective form of contraception, all of the following conditions must be met:

  1. Less than 6 months postpartum

  2. Breastfeeding exclusively with no more than 4 hours in between feedings (no supplementation of any kind, including food)

  3. Not having a period. It is important to note that you can ovulate and get pregnant before your first period after birth.

BREASTFEEDING YOUR NEWBORN: WHAT TO EXPECT

Combined-hormonal contraception- the pill, ring, and patch

These forms of contraception contain both estrogen and progesterone. They are not generally recommended for women who are breastfeeding as the estrogen can decrease milk supply. For those who are not breastfeeding, these forms of contraception can be initiated after 6 weeks.

Estrogen-containing birth control increases the risk of blood clots. Women who are less than 6 weeks postpartum should not use this form of birth control. These forms of contraception are about 91% effective at preventing pregnancy.

hygiene tools

Copper intrauterine device

This highly effective form of contraception has no hormones and is placed inside your uterus by your doctor.  The chance of getting pregnant while using the copper IUD, known as ParaGuard in the US, is less than 1%. Your doctor can insert it in the office and it is effective immediately.

The Paraguard IUD is best for women with light to moderate periods. As it can increase the amount of bleeding during your time of menstruation. Some women also report increased cramping with their periods, though this typically gets better within 6 months of placement. The copper IUD is FDA approved for 10 years of contraception, but research supports effectiveness for up to 12 years.

Progesterone-containing intrauterine device

There are 4 different progesterone containing IUDs on the market in the US. They are all small T-shaped devices that are placed in your uterus by a doctor in a simple office procedure. Placement typically takes under a minute. The IUDs differ in size and progesterone dose. The Skyla and the Kyleena are the smallest in size.

The Skyla has the lowest dose of progesterone hormone and lasts for only 3 years. Higher doses of progesterone mean the IUD works for longer. Also, better able to decrease the amount of menstrual bleeding. The Kyleena is small, like the Skyla, but has a higher dose of progesterone. That is why it works for 5 years and is more likely to decrease or stop your periods.

The Mirena and the Liletta have the highest dose of progesterone. The Mirena lasts for 6 years. Furthermore, 1 in 5 Mirena users no longer have a period after 1 year of use. The progesterone IUDs are over 99% effective at preventing pregnancy. Also, can be used to treat heavy periods and pelvic pain. They are effective within one week of placement. Also, can be removed before their expiration date should you decide to pursue pregnancy or change your mind. Removal is usually a quick and painless process.

HOW TO STRENGTHEN YOUR PELVIC FLOOR AFTER BIRTH

Birth control implant

In the US, Nexplanon is the only available birth control implant. Nexplanon contains progesterone hormone and is the most effective form of contraception available. It is even more effective than getting your tubes tied, though it is not permanent.

The Nexplanon is a small device about the size of a matchstick. That is inserted in the upper arm by a doctor under local anesthesia. Insertion takes only a few minutes, and it prevents pregnancy for 4 years. Most women experience a decrease in their monthly menstrual flow. However, some women have irregular bleeding for the first 6 months or so.

Nexplanon can be removed at any time. Removal, like placement, is typically a simple procedure done in the office with minimal downtime.

Birth Control After Baby

Progesterone-only pill

This oral contraceptive, called the “mini-pill” by some. This is a pill that must be taken at the same time every day in order to be effective. Ovulation and pregnancy can occur if you miss a dose by more than 3 hours. For many remembering to take a pill every day at the exact same time is challenging.

This may help explain why it is only 91% effective at preventing pregnancy. On the upside, it does not require a separate office visit for insertion. Like the long-acting reversible contraceptive devices (IUDs and Nexplanon).

Progesterone injection

In the US, Depo-Provera is available as an injection you get every 3 months. This injection of progesterone is 94% effective at preventing pregnancy. It can cause weight gain and cannot be removed once the injection is given.

Baby Died After Contracting Herpes Virus From Kiss:

A newborn baby died after catching herpes from a ‘kiss of death’, her heartbroken mother has revealed.

The parents of a newborn baby who died just eight days after her birth are warning others. About the potential dangers of allowing family and friends to touch and kiss infants.

Aliza Rose Friend was just eight days old when she passed away after developing neonatal herpes. Her mother Abigail says Aliza was healthy for the first 36 hours of her life before she developed a fever.

The newborn baby began to deteriorate as the disease quickly “ate her lungs and brain”. Leaving her struggling to breathe and suffering multiple seizures.

The DailyMail reports that the baby was soon declared brain dead. Doctors turned off her life-support while her mother sang ‘you are my sunshine’

Baby Died After Contracting Herpes Virus From Kiss

HSV-1 typically causes cold sores or small blisters on the mouth, eye, or lips, which can lead to severe infections or even death in newborns due to their undeveloped immune systems. According to the New York State Department of Health, about 70 percent of U.S. adults are infected with HSV-1 and can shed virus in their saliva at any time, even if they don’t show symptoms. The virus can be transferred to newborns from close contact with someone who is shedding HSV-1 or has an active outbreak.

Her mother Abigail Rose Friend was told by doctors her daughter caught the infection after being kissed by a carrier or touched by unwashed, contaminated hands. Due to her having many visitors, it is unclear who passed the virus on.

Sudden Infant Death Syndrome:

Sudden Infant Death Syndrome – Prevention Guidelines, By Natasha Burgert, MD, FAAP (@doctornatasha),

Following the 2017 American Academy of Pediatrics  (AAP) National Conference,  Dr Natasha Burgert (@kckidsdoc) shares some key information that emerged from the recently concluded conference.

A SIDS Primer: Sleep Well. Sleep Safe.

There is nothing more terrifying for any family than the thought of infant loss. Sadly, despite increasing education on SIDS-prevention practices, the rate of sudden infant death is climbing in the US. This is concerning for those of us who devote our lives to child health because many of these deaths are preventable.

Researchers believe that the increasing death rate is partly due to families choosing to avoid safer sleep guidelines. Evidence suggests that although many parents know the safer way to sleep, some families “give up” on these practices because of parental fatigue, anxiety, or desperation for baby to sleep. Other parents don’t follow safer practices because they falsely believe SIDS is not preventable, and the guidelines won’t change a baby’s “fate.” A smaller group may be relying on products falsely marketed for SIDS-protection.

Here’s the reality: Creating a safe sleep environment and making the decision to follow through with your safe sleep plan, even when times get tired and tough, are the very best things you can do to prevent your new little one from suffocation.

The goal for all families should be quality sleep. For babies, this means back to sleep for every sleep, even when in the hospital after delivery. And after the baby comes home, it’s essential to create a safe sleeping environment based on the scientific evidence we know is protective. Finally, SIDS prevention is also about choosing healthy habits to support a loving and nurturing environment as your baby sleeps and grows.

Learn and follow these SIDS-prevention tips:

1     Back to sleep. Every sleep. Baby should be sleeping on her back, never on her belly.

2     Boring and bare. Baby’s sleep environment should be a simple flat, firm mattress with a tight-fitting sheet. No bumper   pads. No blankets. No toys. No cords from monitors should be in the sleep space.

3      Room share. Baby should be in her sleep space in the same room where your sleep, but never in the sharing the same bed.

4      Breastfeed. If you are able, choose to breastfeed to nourish your baby.

5     Pacifiers are OK. Once breastfeeding is established, putting baby to sleep with a pacifier is shown to decrease SIDS.

6     Vaccinate. Routine vaccinations are protective against infant death.

7     Don’t smoke. Keep baby away from others who smoke, and places where people smoke.

And remember:

It’s OK to wake. A healthy infant should wake periodically throughout the night for comfort and feedings. Sleeping “through the night” should not be an immediate expectation.

• Even babies with reflux can safely sleep on their backs.

• If you are sleepy, it’s safer to feed your baby in a bed free of all blankets and pillows, than to feed on a cushioned couch or chair. If you do fall asleep while feeding, move baby to her safe sleep space as soon as you wake.

Safe sleep is hard, but the commitment to safety is easy. If you follow the evidence-based suggestions for baby’s safer sleep, everyone can rest easy knowing you have done your best to protect baby from needless risk.

Sweet dreams!

Breastfeeding And Contraception

Breastfeeding And Contraception By Dr. Angela,

Can breastfeeding be used as a form of birth control? Can hormonal contraceptive methods be used while breastfeeding? Dr. Angela answers these questions and more!

One of the more common topics that will be addressed at your 6 week postpartum visit is contraception. To use, or not to use….that is the question.

Once the decision has been made to use something, the next most common query I get involves breastfeeding and the safety of using hormonal contraception while breastfeeding. Most new moms are concerned about the hormones decreasing their milk supply. I was recently posed this question on the Ask Dr. Angela Podcast(episode83) as well as several direct messages on social media. Here are my thoughts:

First off, I would definitely use something and not rely exclusively on breastfeeding for contraception. I have seen far too many women with surprise pregnancies that relied solely on breastfeeding for birth control. Just delivered a woman this happened to. I saw her for her new obstetric visit and she was already 20 weeks along……Talk about SHOCKING!

Theoretically speaking, by the time you are seen for your 6 week postpartum visit, your milk supply should be established enough that a low dose combination pill shouldn’t significantly affect your milk supply. Now the operative words here are SHOULDN’T and SIGNIFICANTLY……

So, could your milk supply be affected? Maybe.

What’s significant? Depends on who you ask.

In my moms that don’t want to take any chances, the usual option is a progesterone only form of contraception whether that be a progesterone containing iud, Depo-Provera, pill(progesterone only), or non-hormonal forms of contraception such as the Paragard iud or barrier methods….yes, folks still use condoms.

And what happens if you opted for a progesterone only form of birth control and your milk supply still decreases?

Some might recommend stopping the hormones all together and opting for something non-hormonal.

If you are looking for hints on how to increase milk supply in general, here is what my lactation friends shared with me:

  • Nurse, nurse, nurse. No supplementing if you can get away with it.
  • Ask for help sooner than later. Just because you are no longer in the hospital doesn’t mean you can’t still reach out to the lactation consultants.
  • Make sure you are taking care of YOU! Most new moms get so caught up in the hustle and bustle of caring for a new baby that they neglect themselves. Make sure you are eating healthy meals and hydrating!
  • Share the love! Use both breasts when breastfeeding!
  • Sweat the technique! Remember that rap song “Don’t Sweat the Technique” by Eric B. and Rakim? CLASSIC….anyway, you want to “sweat the technique” when breastfeeding. It’s important to make sure baby is getting a good latch.

Alternative suggestions such as Fenugreek, Red Thistle, eating increased amounts of oatmeal, etc., are “natural” remedies for increasing milk supply. I’m still waiting to see the scientific data that supports these options one way or the other.

Hoping this blog post has added value to your day!

Until next time,

Look Better. Feel Better. Be Better.

Oh, Dear 3 in 1 year! How I Balance Mommy Duties With 3 Kids, 8 Months Apart?

One real mom gives practical tips on how she juggled mommy duties with three kids under one!

Follow me down the rabbit hole although I am nowhere as cute and spunky as Alice. My name is Sandra and five years ago, I gave birth to three children eight months apart now that bit of information usually brings on an awkward glance or two so I believe a backstory is in order.

How I Met My Husband

My husband and I met in 2010 at our first duty station in the military…we locked eyes from across the room then he came up to me and said. “You’re the expletive with the eyelashes! Do you know you caused everyone in the dinning facility  to be smoked?” Now I was quite un-phased by this uncouth little encounter as the dinning facility false lash incident had seemingly ruffled quite a few feathers he wasn’t the first person to greet me with such a scathing reproach.

Now if you know a bit about the military. I am sure you can already see why false lashes in basic training would be a problem. There is more to what went down that fateful day but that’s a story for another time. Thankfully we were able to move past lash gate and soon found ourselves in love.

3 in 1 year

Our Growing Family

Fast forward to 2012 we had been married for two years and were expecting our first child. Our beautiful raven haired bundle was born on January 30th 2012. So how did I end up with three kids who are not triplets in one year? Well with me being the randy little lass that I am, I could hardly wait for my six week medically imposed celibacy to be up.

So one baby free night and several glasses of wine later we unknowingly convinced our identical twin boys. The twins apparently as impatient as their dear mother made a grand early entrance into the world on October 16th 2012. So I went from one child to three In what seemed like the blink of an eye. The first few months (read still is!) were probably the hardest after taking some time to ingest all the changes and traumas.

The twins arrived at 29wks so that meant NICU (Neonatal Intensive Care Unit) time plus a host of other challenges. I realized that the best way to take on the challenges of this new life was to go with the flow. It sounds infinitely easier than it actually was (is). Since I had an emergency c section my milk took some time to come in so the twins were given donor milk. God bless all those who donate because it helped ease the guilt I felt over not being able to provide for them those first few weeks.

Balancing Mommy Duties

About three months after they were born they came home. I began my terminal leave from the military, I began my journey as a stay at home mom and our family life began in earnest. As happy as we were to have the boys home it was a big adjustment. Used to the bright lights of the NICU the twins did not have the best sleep pattern to keep things bearable we went by the kids body clocks our mornings started whenever they woke up and we allowed them to sleep whenever they needed until they were old enough to really give sleep training a go.

Back then upon waking the twins went in their swings while I made breakfast. Then it was time to grab my double breastfeeding pillow latch the boys use my feet to pull my daughters highchair close to me she would get fed as nursed her brothers. When we were out if I wasn’t able to nurse we used bottle holders. I think I read somewhere that the bottle holder things are Ill advised but back then they were life savers. These methods worked pretty awesome even better was when baby girl could finally feed herself! Although the boys enjoyed sticking to the double feeding method even when they began solids. So baby girl would get her food and I would double spoon the twins. It cut back on time everyone was happy and fed.

SEE ALSO : AMAZING STORIES OF LABOR AND BIRTH FROM REAL MOMS

Speaking of time saving that became something of a hobby. It was easier to handle the babies when everything was prepped ahead from bottles to bathes. I gave myself time lines but also let myself just say to hell with it if I didn’t make those timelines. Mothers of multiples and of children close together tend to find all these neat little ways to make it through the day.

On nights where bath time seemed like a personal punishment. We used baby magic no rinse foam to give the bubs a quick wipe down. The prep and assembly line method kept things running somewhat smoothly pretty much in all aspects of life with the exception of poop volcanos or projectile vomit.

kids

Now I can make it seem as if I had it all in the bag or it was all sunshine and unicorn poop. I can pretend that I did it with six inch stilettos on or a sequined ball gown. I could pretend the poop murals, food explosions, omg what did you eat and near are visits never happened but they did. It would make me look so bad-ass if I never cried looking at a category five mess simply because I dared to use the bathroom for more than five minutes but the truth is it was hard a lot more than it was easy.

There were times my sleep deprived sanity was a lone little row boat in an ocean of coughs, feverish, vomiting children. Just hearing a sniffle queued up a 80’s horror soundtrack in the back of my mind. There were times I did whatever worked at the time whatever I could do to get through the day. Whatever would help tire them out for an easy quick bedtime.

To cut on clothing cost, we use a inside/ outside clothes rule. Outside clothes are taken off promptly upon returning home and washed outside in In color safe detergent This kept things in top hand me up condition. We color coded as many things as we could so the children had a sense of ownership/responsibility. It also helped to get them involved in learning to help pick up after themselves.

Even though the kids have flatware, Paper plates were and are still dear friends of ours. Kids seem to drink like fish so we rinse cups after use and set them in the middle of the table (this is where the color code comes in handy too) one cup all day. Less dishes equals more time to use in some other productive way. Finding what works for you and your children no matter how others may think was the best thing having children so close in age taught me.

Loving Your Children Is What Matters

I am sure I am not alone when I say this that parenting thing can come with some unexpected guilt. Self generated guilt or some from the peanut gallery know as society. A source of guilt in my home was feeling that since they were so close that somehow in some way they would feel neglected in some way. As individual attention while available and readily given could never really come in large quantities. But you know what I know all of my children well Trey has a just  happy to be alive cuddly personality, Mimi with her larger than life boss lady persona then there’s Ty my stick to the facts protective sweetheart. My little motley crew has taught me so much about myself. They grow me as much as I grow them they know they are loved.

As a mom I learned that you will be judged as a parent no matter if you have one or 100 children. Going out on a limb I am willing to bet many parents of multiples or closely grouped children have heard the likes of ” You guys don’t have a TV huh” or the gawking like the grocery store extraterrestrials who feel privy to invade your personal space to question or worse touch without asking! Friend, strangers and relatives alike it seems there is always that one person. I also learned that there is this strange mommy competition that sometimes takes place and your worth as mother/parent will weighed against another.

three kids

I learned that all of the above mentioned should just remain observations. Loving your children is what matters, trying each day to better for them and yourself, what other moms do or don’t and how often they do or don’t do it, if you yell more or less, if you’re not as neat or together. Having and raising three kids under two taught me to to just be mom enough for me and my family. I have since gone on to have a fourth child the kids are alive, well and as precocious as ever.

The older three start kindergarten this year and honestly it’s a bit of a relief. The excitement of change and growth each school year brings. That bit of a break doesn’t hurt either may anyone reading have an amazing year full of smiles and good memories and most of all love and family growth no matter if you have one kid or a dozen.

10 Survival Tactics for Flying with a Baby
We love traveling with our baby. This is not to be confused with loving to fly with her. We may be crazy but we’re not sadistic! After 40+ flights in Rae’s first year ranging from 30min-16hrs long, we’ve come up with a variety of methods to survive plane rides, from the easy early bassinet days to the constantly crawling and mobile moments. Needless to say as she gets older, flying becomes more, …let’s call it “enthusiastic”.
1. Pre-Flight Food Deprivation: Not like Zero Dark Thirty levels, I’m talking just slight withholding of boob juice before the flight for the sake of the greater good. Flight goals with babies are to nurse then nap. In order for her to nurse when I want her to, I may stretch feedings a bit to make sure she’s hungry enough to nurse when we get on-board.
2. Pre-Flight Sleep Manipulation: (insert evil laugh) Prior to our flights, you can find me sitting in a room scheming like Mr. Burns whispering “excellent, Sunday, excellent”. Yes I’m seeking help for this, but in the meantime, my sleep manipulation tactics have worked. If booking the flight during nap-time isn’t possible, then I mess with that day’s sleep schedule so that she’s tired for the flight. I might wake her up a bit early from sleep, or cut her morning nap a little short. All in the name of her being tired enough to nurse and pass out in her dark baby cave created by my nursing cover.
3.Flight-Time Nurse Nurse Nurse Nurse Nurse: (extra points if done to the theme of Rhianna’s “work work work work work”) As Coach Taylor would say, full mouths, big bellies, can’t lose. We all know how magical boobs are, but they become extraordinary at 30,000ft. Between getting your baby’s jaws to open to reduce ear discomfort to filling them up with night-night juice (very different than Mommy’s special night-night juice) I’ve found nothing to be as effective at keeping the airplane gremlin away like nursing does.

4.Baby Seatbelt and Bassinets: Call, confirm and repeat when it comes to securing a bassinet for your 0-6 month-old before a flight. If they’re young enough to go in it, it’s a lifesaver for long plane rides. Once they move to lap infant status, most airlines outside the USA require babies to have an infant seatbelt for takeoff and landing. Since I’m boarding the plane with a hungry, tired, Furby-like creature attached to me, I ask for the infant seatbelt right away. Once in the seat, strap everyone in, nurse and nap. The last thing you want to do is mess with a babe who has just fallen asleep to get their seat belt fastened.

5.Inflight Magazines: Pretend as if you’re the sole provider of the confetti for the Times Square New Years Eve ball drop and RIP THAT SHIT TO SHREDS! They said it’s free to take and no other rules were provided, therefore we assume creative control. There’s something about the noise and physical motion that results in a seriously satisfying situation for all ages. Rae can be whatever she wants when she’s older, but I’m going to suggest her first job be a human paper shredder.

6. Frozen/Cold Water Bottle: It’s cold, it crinkles, and it can be thrown away when it gets chucked on the floor. Can you say airplane toy bingo?! Most airports allow you to bring liquids through security as long as they’re for the baby, so chuck one of these bad boys in the freezer at home and bring it on board. Alternatively, just buy a cold water bottle at the airport and it’ll work just as well for sore teething gums to chew on.

7.Strategic Seating: You know who brings out the best in me? Nope, not Sunday. AIRPORT CHECK-IN PEOPLE. I’m the best version of myself in front of them, all in the name of securing anything from a bulkhead to a blocked middle seat. You would have thought they gave me their left kidney for how much I thank them when they come through with some goodies. And if they’ve given me nothing, at least I’ve pre-chosen a window seat for the baby and me. This way we’re protected from interruptions while nursing, sleeping along with aggressive boarding tactics of fellow passengers, and provides a handy window to play with while she’s awake.

8.Carrier: Whether it’s up to the airplane or down to baggage claim, we’re constantly dealing with stairs. Having her strapped to me compared to trying to wrangle a wiggly baby in my arms has been clutch. It’s important to note that most airlines will not allow you to wear the baby in the carrier for take off and landing, so I don’t use them once on the plane, unless it’s a long haul journey.

9.Snacks: I dare you to name a situation that food hasn’t made better. Ok, maybe swimming to be fair, but it improves most other moments for mammals of all ages. Bringing any kind of snack can earn you loads of time sitting still (and by loads I mean 3-minute increments. Hey we’re traveling with a baby here; let’s keep our expectations low shall we?).

10. Baby Apps: A baby app may only get you 5 minutes of distraction but I’ve done a lot more for a lot less!Babies are like caged animals on flights, so give yourself a fighting chance and combine all of these methods to survive! Considering how tiring flight days are I must be burning calories from all my evil scheming. At this rate I should be Kate Moss by the time she’s 2!

Why not?!

1-Year-Old Died In Hot Car

A 25-year-old woman in Georgia, Dijanelle Fowler, has been arrested and charged with second-degree murder, child cruelty, and concealing the death of her 1-year-old daughter, who police say died after being left in a hot car for six hours.

Fowler arrived for her hair appointment in Tucker, Georgia at 10.04am on June 15, and left her one-year-old daughter Skylar in the car. She reportedly left the air conditioning on, but the car died soon after she left the vehicle.

Surveillance video shows Fowler returning to her car at 4pm, at which point she didn’t call police, but got a man at the salon’s help in restarting her car. Police believe that at this point, Fowler daughter was dead. Warrants revealed that the man who helped most likely never saw the child’s body because there were “lots of clothes” to cover her. Fowler texted the child’s godfather about an hour later — telling him that she was heading to an urgent care facility for headaches. Records show she searched the internet for signs of having a seizure around the same time. Police say she then drove around for hours with her dead baby in the car before calling 911 from a parking garage at Emory University Hospital to report having a “seizure of some kind” but did not mention her daughter. Her daughter was found dead in the back seat. Police initially believed the child died during Fowler’s visit to the hospital — but her timeline of events didn’t add up, and an autopsy suggested the little girl had been dead for a longer period of time.

WHAT THE LAW SAYS

Laws for leaving kids in car vary from state to state. Only 20 states in the US have laws that specifically make it illegal to leave a child unattended in a vehicle. States without kids-in-cars laws still may prosecute parents under child endangerment statutes, which can be interpreted in wildly different ways. Find out what the law says in your state.

In the UK,  it is illegal to leave a child alone if it places them at risk. The gov.uk website states: Use your judgement on how mature your child is before you decide to leave them alone, e.g. at home or in a car. “Parents [people] can be prosecuted if they leave a child unsupervised ‘in a manner likely to cause unnecessary suffering or injury to health’ “.

Couple Welcome Twins

North Carolina Couple Welcome Twins After Losing Sons in Crash, July 10, 2017.

Hadley and Gentry Eddings, a pastor at Forest Hill Church in Charlotte who lost their two sons in a tragic accident in May 2015, on the way home from Gentry’s sister’s wedding, have welcomed twin boys.  The elated couple named their double blessings – Isaiah Dobbs and Amos Reed, in honor of their older siblings.

Earlier this year in January, the couple announced the great news that they were expecting twins and used the opportunity to state that they had forgiven the driver who caused the wreck. The couple was in a caravan with family members on their way home from Wilmington to Charlotte during Memorial Day weekend  when a truck driver slammed into them, killing their 2-year old son Dobbs and sending Hadley, who was 37 weeks pregnant, into labor. Hadley, ended up having an emergency C-section, but the baby boy — whom they named Reed — died just two days later.

Relying on their faith to get through the difficult time,  the couple mentioned that they wanted people to understand the power of forgiveness. “Be willing to forgive others – that’s been an important part of our healing,  is just to be able to forgive the driver that caused the accident.”

In a statement to PEOPLE, Hadley said “The Lord has not left us for one second in our grief of losing our two boys almost two years ago. God is a redeemer and a restorer! God blesses us beyond what we deserve or could ever imagine.

“We are excited that Dobbs and Reed are going to be big brothers to twins! We are so thankful for our family and so many friends who have prayed for us and cheered us on our way. We’re rejoicing, and thank Jesus for these two precious little ones!”

In an Interview, Hadley said she had missed being a mom from day one “but around this summer I thought, we’re getting to that point where it’s ok for me to be pregnant and I want to have more babies. And I don’t want to continue to live this life without being a mom again.”

She says she had to come to terms with exactly what it means to have more kids.

“It’s not betraying my children who are no longer here to have more children and that was the things we had to work through before we decided to try again.”

Asides supporting with prayers, well-wishers have been able to raise $203,000 through GoFundMe to cover medical and other expenses.  “We believe there is a lot of hope in our story and it reminds us God is a restorer,” says Gentry Eddings.
