Despite being shocked by the request, Lane did not back down or leave, instead she raised her voice and said: “No, but I have a muslin if you would like to cover your face. You must not know Georgia’s breastfeeding laws.”
According to a post that Lane shared on Facebook after the incident: “He asked me to leave since he was helping my friend and not me. So I then called the Military Police so they could inform him [of the laws]. The officers arrived and explained that he couldn’t force a breastfeeding mom out of his store and gave their personal support to Avery as she continued to nurse.
Lane said that she wanted to share her experience with other mums in order to “normalise breastfeeding” and make it easier for mums to feed in public without being shamed.
